BROADSIDE FAQ:
Q: HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECORD A DEMO?
A: Time estimates are very difficult to make when it involves recording. Other than obvious elements such as; number of songs, amount of over-dubbing etc..., there are four main factors that dictate the amount of time that it takes to finish a project...
1. How well you know your material: Simple. If you know your songs, it takes less time. Don't change the arrangement when you're in the studio.
2. Tracking methods: All at once, or track by track. CLICK HERE FOR COMMON RECORDING METHODS...
3. Your knowledge of how you want the finished product to sound: The more you know about what you want to do with a song will speed up the process. Bringing in reference CD's that have sounds on them that you want can be helpful for drums, guitars, effects, etc... 4. Preparation: When you're paying by the hour, preparation is everything. Efficientcy is the key to saving money.
Q: WHAT IS MASTERING AND WHY DO I NEED IT? A: Mastering is one of those terms that people often misunderstand. While there is no clear-cut, one term definition for mastering, I'll try to explain some of what it involves. In general, mastering puts that extra "shine" and "polish" on your 2-track mixes. Adding brightness to a dull recording, or punchiness to a thin one, it makes "a bunch of songs" sound like a record. Visit the mastering section for details.
Q: IS SET-UP TIME ON THE CLOCK?
A: Yes. For bands, it usually takes about an hour to get ready to go.
Q: WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
A: The address is:
901 South Westnedge Ave.
Kalamazoo, Michigan 49008.
2 Blocks South of Vine Street on the left hand side.
