MASTERING AT BROADSIDE :

Mastering Services: $45 hr.

Mastering will help make sure your CD sounds comparable to others in the "real world".

After your tracks are mixed, we can...

EDIT
: Remove stick-clicks and unwanted noise from the beginning and end of tracks. Fade-in fade-out.

EQUALIZE: Sometimes (especially when assembling a collection of recordings that were completed at different times and places) it's necessary to make overall EQ adjustments on individual songs. Overall EQ is also used to fix annoying characteristics of a mix (too much sizzle in cymbals, too much rumble in bass etc...)

APPLY COMPRESSION: In general, this helps smooth-out the difference in volume between the loud and soft parts of each song. When used tastefully, it will also "solidify" the overall sound of the material and make it "pop" out of the speaker more. This part of the process has a way of solving problematic aspects of a mix as well.

MAXIMIZE LEVELS: We've all been there... Your band's disc starts to play after (INSERT MAJOR LABEL BAND NAME HERE) and your disc is 50db lower in volume. Bummer. We prevent that from happening with the assistance of a wide range of Mastering Plug-ins. match levels from song to song. We'll make sure your CD sounds comparable to others in the "real world".

SET TRACK LEVELS
: This is where we set levels from one song to the next. Just because they're "maximized" doesn't mean that they're ready to burn. The perceived level of a track can seem louder than it "looks" on the meters. This is a quick process that justrequires a little experimentation and a couple of times listening to the transition.

BURN THE MASTER CD: The master is CD burned. Copies are made from this master.

TAKE IT HOME :
At this point, we recommend taking it home and listening on as many different systems as possible. If there is something that you're not happy with, we'll set-up a final "touch-up" session.

To sum it up, the mastering process puts the final "polish" on your recording.
